Microsoft has officially announced that support for Windows 10 will end on October 14, 2025. After that date, users will no longer receive security updates or any form of technical support. What does this mean in practice and how to prepare for this change?
What does the end of support mean?
The end of support does not mean that Windows 10 will stop working. The system will continue to run and function, but the lack of security updates will significantly increase the risk of cyberattacks. The software will stop being developed and secured, which could have serious consequences, especially in corporate environments.
Time for Windows 11 - what do you need to know?
The best step in the face of the end of Windows 10 support is to upgrade to Windows 11. But before you decide, make sure your computer meets the minimum hardware requirements:
- Processor: AMD Ryzen 2nd generation or later, Intel 8th generation or later
- RAM: 4 GB minimum
- Hard drive: at least 64 GB of free space
- TPM: version 2.0
- BIOS: UEFI mode
How to upgrade Windows 10 to Windows 11?
1. via Windows Update
Simplest method:
- Go to Start → Settings → Updates and security → Windows Update
- If an update to Windows 11 is available, a message will appear with the option to download and install it.
2. through the Installation Assistant
If the update has not appeared automatically:
- Download the Windows 11 Installation Assistant from the Microsoft website: Microsoft official site
- Run the tool and follow the instructions on the screen.
3. advanced installation from ISO file (for technical users)
- Download the ISO image of Windows 11.
- Open a terminal with administrator privileges.
- Navigate to the folder with the ISO file and run the command:
- setup.exe /eula accept /auto upgrade /migratedrivers all /Compat IgnoreWarning /dynamicupdate disable /showoobe none
This method allows you to install with your existing data and drivers intact, even if your computer does not meet all the requirements - but it is worth remembering that Microsoft does not recommend it in production environments.
October 2025 - time to switch to Windows 11!
