We present the second text from the SITIP series - this time Mateusz Drużga from the Support and Service Department discusses the topic of activities related to ending work, i.e.... turning off the computer! Let the one who has never left it turned on cast the first stone - is it a big mistake and should be avoided?

Do you ever leave your computer on after you finish working? This is not the best solution...Shutting down your computer regularly has many benefits for both the device and the user.

Here are 7 key reasons why it is worth turning off the device when we no longer use it:

Energy saving

Turning off your computer instead of leaving it in sleep or hibernation mode reduces energy consumption.

2

Extension of equipment life

Continuous operation of the computer, especially under heavy load, may lead to wear of components such as the hard drive, fans or power supply. Regularly turning them off allows them to "rest" and can extend their lifespan.

The computer is on - it means that... I'm working! :-)

3

Preventing systemic problems

Turning off your computer allows you to close all processes, which can help you avoid system errors, program conflicts, or system "freezing." Regular restart allows the operating system to refresh and load without errors.

Security

When your computer is turned off, it is less vulnerable to hackers, viruses, and other security threats. Leaving a computer with Internet access turned on for a long time may increase the risk of such attacks.

5

System and software updates

Often, operating system updates and other programs require a restart of the computer to be fully installed. Turning off your computer regularly allows for ongoing updates and security patches.

Performance improvement

Over time, a computer that runs non-stop can accumulate unnecessary processes and data in memory, which can lead to a decline in performance. Shutting down and restarting allows you to clear RAM and close unnecessary processes.

7

User's mental regeneration

Turning off the computer can also help you distance yourself from work or study, which is important for your mental health and overall well-being. This is a signal for the user to take a break.

Turning off your computer regularly is a simple practice that can have many benefits, both in terms of device performance and user comfort. After work, give yourself and your computer a rest - you can do more when you are full of energy! :-)
