Profiles in web browsers by Mateusz Drużga

The third text in the "SITip" series! This time Mateusz Drużga (Support and Service Department) looks at profiles in web browsers. What are they? Is it worth using them? And above all... how to create such a profile in a web browser? For answers to these and many more questions, please read the text below.

Web browser profiles are a built-in feature that allows users to create and manage different user accounts within a single browser. Each profile works as a separate browser - with its own settings, history, bookmarks, saved passwords and even extensions. This solution is particularly useful for people who share a computer with other users or want to separate their activities, e.g. professional from private. Learn more about profiles in web browsers and see that it's really worth having them at hand.

How profiles work in browsers - this is what you need to know.

Profile w przeglądarkach internetowych to przede wszystkim oddzielne środowisko użytkownika

Profiles in web browsers are primarily a separate user environment. Each profile has its own browser settings, bookmarks, history, saved passwords, extensions and cookies. You may find it useful at various levels of everyday browser use, from your personal profile to the guest profile.

Different purposes of profiles:

  • Personal profile: Used for everyday work, with bookmarks, history and passwords related to private things.
  • Professional profile: This should be used for work, with separate tabs, logins, and tools needed for work tasks.
  • Guest Profile: A temporary profile that doesn't save any data, ideal for one-time browser users.

One of the undoubted advantages of such profile in a web browser is the ease of switching between different profiles. For example, popular browsers such as Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Microsoft Edge allow you to quickly switch between profiles with just a few clicks, which is convenient and allows you to quickly access different accounts.

3 main benefits of using profiles:

  1. Security and privacy

Profiles allow you to separate personal and professional data, which increases information security.

  2. Time-saving

The user does not have to log in to different accounts each time, everything is already saved in the appropriate profile. Remembering passwords in a browser carries the risk of password leakage.

  3. Organization

It makes it easier to manage various aspects of your online life, making your browsing more organized and efficient.
